Slowing Down

Mon Jan 6 2025

Slowing down isn't quitting. It's smart pacing to avoid burnout.

Burnout isn't about hard work; it's about misaligned work: high effort with low meaning, low control, and low recovery. Slowing down is changing the ratio, not the ambition.

How I slow down: shorten my dailies, not my goals. Schedule recovery as a task. Move my body. Eat like an athlete. Say no to random obligations so I can say yes to real ones. Sleep like it's a meeting with my future self.

Slowing down also improves craft. When I think slower, I design better systems. When I talk slower, I manage better. When I hire slower, I fire less.

If speed hides mistakes, slow. If speed hides fear, slow. If speed hides drift, stop and realign.
